About Rae

Writer. Educator. Personal Statement Coach.

A Southern California native, Rae did her master’s coursework in English literature at Loyola Marymount University (LMU) in Los Angeles, where she was a recipient of the LMU English Graduate Research Grant. She earned her B.A. in journalism and English literature from Cal State Long Beach (CSULB) and has summered with the Victorian Society in America as part of her graduate research on Victorian culture and literature.

As a personal statement mentor, Rae uses her journalism background to ask her students probing questions that become conversations—conversations that, eventually, lead to storytelling. Rae’s students have went on to receive admission offers from schools such as USC, UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC Irvine, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, University of the Pacific, and Chapman University. Before her time in education, Rae worked as a fact checker for Orange Coast Magazine and as both a copy editor and copywriter for The Creative Group, a Robert Half company.

Rae enjoys a captivating story and writes whenever she can. Her short story, “A Question for You,” appears on Flash Fiction Magazine. During her senior year as an undergrad at CSULB, Rae was nominated for the Western Publishing Association’s MAGGIE Awards for a personal essay she wrote on ghosting, which appeared on CSULB’s campus magazine. Rae’s Medium essay on George Floyd and police brutality, meanwhile, was one of Medium’s recommended readings at the time of its publication.

When she is not writing or helping her students, Rae is either rereading Jane Austen novels, waiting for the next episode (or season) of House of the Dragon, or navigating life as a California girl living in Los Angeles.
